Laura McLively is a Davis, California–based dietitian, food writer, recipe developer, and sustainability advocate. She is the author of the award-winning cookbook,The Berkeley Bowl Cookbook (© Parallax Press 2018), which features original recipes celebrating the unusual fruits and vegetables found at California’s iconic Berkeley Bowl Market.
Laura is a food writer and correspondent for Bay Area News Group publications including the San Jose Mercury News and the East Bay Times, where she explores sustainability-minded approaches to cooking, shopping, and eating. Through her writing, recipe development, and teaching, she helps readers build vibrant, plant-rich meals that are both deeply nourishing and environmentally conscious.
Her work sits at the intersection of nutrition, agriculture, and climate, with a focus on how healthy soil and local food systems shape both human and planetary health.
In addition to her journalism and cookbook work, Laura runs a private dietetics practice and cooking school. She is passionate about helping people reconnect with seasonal ingredients, reduce food waste, and find joy in everyday cooking.
